I have so many thoughts about Bram Stoker’s Dracula. Is it horny? A cautionary tale? How well do modern adaptations interpret it? I’m obsessed with the aesthetics of Werner Herzog’s 1979 remake of Nosferatu. Herzog, naturally, thought Murnau’s original was one of the greatest films ever made and painstakingly worked his homages into his remake. It might be needless to say I went into Robert Eggers’ version of Nosferatu with both extremely high and extremely low expectations and so my desire to read Dracula this month was to understand the original narrative better and see how it fit into overall vampire canon. I’m excited to chat — some of you are way more familiar with this novel than I am, so I’m eager to hear what you have to say!
